Purity Ring - Obedear

In the next 24 hours, this song will appear on 90% of the world’s music blogs, and today I feel like being a joiner. So there.

Like a lot of folks, I’m stoked for the duo’s debut album Shrines LP out on 4AD on July 24th. Download this track free on their website.

Beverly’s Memory

i had a moment the other day where i just thought: “i’m so glad i work here”. it’s easy to just ask the next person how their day is and move on. but this is not the case for the regulars. Beverly came in looking really down, and to be honest i wasn’t doing well myself. i genuinely wanted to know how she was doing. she teared up and said “not so good. my husband past this week… we used to come here together”. the more she told me about paul and the way he went, the more i just felt overwhelmed. all i could do was to give her a hug and listen. today barnie’s was not just my place of work. it was a Beverly’s memory revisited.

JT Bringardner has been a major player in the Florida music community for years. In addition to being a prolific musician with involvement in Oh Fortuna, Rabbit Punch, Spirit Tramp, and most recently DAD MAX, he has also spearheaded, the festival like no other, Total Bummer. The Bummer has been, and continues to be the glue that holds Florida’s progressive music community together. Every year JT curates an eclectic lineup that is hell bent on blowing minds and creating beautiful friendships.

JT recently moved away from the sunshine state, but that hasn’t stopped him from carrying the bummer ethos to the internet via the Spirit Cat website. It’s a tremendous resource to see what’s bubbling up all over Florida.

Jt has told me that he’s been engrossed by the book “Shrödinger’s Cat”. The book explores the intricacies of quantum physics and personal entanglement. JT explores these themes in this Spirit Cat alternate reality mix. He imagines a dimension where Spirit Cat artists are writing these jams somewhere in the space of the eternal 1970s.

GANGI

FMLY fest was an event to remember, simply because of the artists involved. GANGI was the most memorable of these. The first night was in the midst of a collection of warehouses and it was completely powered by solar energy. Which caused some problems. Despite the fact that their equipment went in and out of power, they made due. And quite honestly you would never have been able to tell anything was wrong by the energy GANGI projected. “Outside Ones” reminds me a little of a dark venture into deep tunnels of an unknown city. Maybe in post-apocalyptic Pittsburgh or Detroit. The vibes you feel from this song are deeply sensational. And then, a sudden feeling of lightness comes with the next song, “Gold”, which tells you to watch out for the good to come.

i still have a drawing that i made when i was 7 years old. it was of a coyote howling at the moon. the caption read: “i howl for you, because you are special to me”. i’m not sure why i wrote this, but i am 23 now. and i decided to make something inspired by that drawing. this is what i made
